The end of the year in the US was characterized by another episode of brutality and violence perpetrated by the New Orleans Police Dept. towards people of color. The killing of a black man was depicted by the media as the result of the increasing tension after the Katrina disaster and of the behaviour of a few bad apples. But as Bakari Kitwana -The Hip Hop Generation - and David A. Harris - Profiles in Injustice -have largely demonstrated we're not talking about isolated incidents but about "daily operation" happening all around the country... not only in the US but also in Italy as the recent arrest of a number of law enforcement in Milan is highlighting.

The beginning of 2006 in Italy was characterized by the passing of [1] the new law on self defense which is closing the gap between Far West Amerikkka and Italy and [2] the new law on Drugs which will criminalize the youth putting more and more teenager under the the arm of the criminal justice system. This law will create a boom in inprisonment weighting on an already overpopulated prison system. The Hip Hop History Files 1973-1979 # 3 is dedicated to the history of Writing and the evolution of style, from tags on walls to masterpieces covering whole trains. The new chapter is entitled Bomb Da System - only italian. Background interview with sculptor, photographer and filmmaker, Henry Chaflant (Subway Art, Spraycan Art, Style Wars). The interview will apper in u_net's Bigger than Hip Hop, to be published in may06. PaperResistance (BIG UP!!!) artworks will introduce all the interviews on Bigger than Hip Hop.

u_net interviewed Rob Swift, pionering scratch/turntable artist and original member of the X-ecutioners, who dropped in September his last production, War Games. For the first time a scratch artist used turntables to make a social commentary on issues revolving around September 11, the war on Iraq and the black community. La fine del 2005 ha riportato alla ribalta della cronaca l'ennesimo atto di violenza e brutalità perpetrato dagli agenti del dipartimento di polizia di New Orleans nei confronti della popolazione di colore. L'assassinio di un uomo di mezza età accerchiato da una dozzina di agenti incapaci di disarmarlo - di un coltello - è stato dipinto dai media come la conseguenza delle tensioni esistenti all'indomani della catastrofe causata dall'uragano Katrina e del cattivo operato di singoli agenti. Come Bakari Kitwana e David Harris hanno chiaramente evidenziato nei loro testi ( The Hip Hop Generation, Profiles in Injustice), è evidente come queste pratiche non possano esser considerati casi isolati né l'opera di alcune mele marce bensì di "daily operation". Pratiche che sembrano esser conosciute anche dagli agenti del disordine italiani come provano i recenti arresti di Milano.

L'inizio del 2006 in Italia, invece, è stato funestato dal passaggio della nuova legge sull'autodifesa che sembra avvicinare l'italia all'Amerikkka della giustizia fai-da-te alla Charles Bronson nonché dalla nuova legge sulle droghe che porterà sotto il giogo della giustizia penale un numero sempre maggiore di giovani. Questa legge porterà prevedibilmente ad un aumento ingente delle percentuali di incarcerazione che andrà a pesare su una situazione di sovrappopolamente già di per sè grave. La soluzione: nuove prigioni ! Ma sentite bene... queste prigioni saranno concepite per ospitare spazi di produzione industriale al loro interno... Chi saranno quelli che pagheranno questa decisione criminale? Chi investirà nel lavoro in carcere? Le parole Prison Industrial Complex vi dicono nulla? u_net ha avuto il piacere di intervistare Rob Swift - DJ, turntablist e membro originario del gruppo X-ecutioners - che ha pubblicato il suo ultimo lavoro, War Games, nel Dicembre del 2005. Per la prima volta, un DJ ha pensato di utilizzare due piatti e un mixer per realizzare un lavoro politico incentrato su tematiche rilevanti quali gli attacchi dell'11settembre 2001, la guerra contro l'Iraq e altre problematiche di carattere sociale.
