Since my last newsletter I've been travelling promoting Bigger Than Hip Hop mainly through live events and radio interviews. Though the experience is more than trying for a-9to5-wannabe-HipHop-conspirator, the feedback of the people has been extraordinary, especially among the younger ones. u_net wanna thank all the people I have been meeting during the book presentation for all the love and the interest shown. Some interesting reviews are about to be published both on newspapers and music magazines and only yesterday (sunday the 2nd of july) I read Militant A's (Assalti Frontali) letter to XL entitled Hip Hop: struggle and poetry where the legendary MC of one of the oldest and most consciuos rap groups in Italy drops mad props for Bigger Than Hip Hop. The letter i'm quoting is part of a debate on the state of today's italian Hip Hop which has been unfolding on the last two issues of XL. As y'all may understand lately things have been hectic and that's why you're receiving this newsletter with a little deelay... but u_net is still in full effect!!!

Quannum Special Pt.2: Blackalicious begun humbly in high school in 1987 and now claims four critically acclaimed albums and EPs to its credit -1995's Melodica, 1999's A2G, 1999's Nia, and 2002's Blazing Arrow. Emerging from the influential Bay Area indie scene of the mid-90s, they burst onto the world stage and provided a roadmap for hundreds of underground artists to follow. Kalonji Jama Changa: somewhere between an ambitious pavement poet and the dynamic El-Hajj Malik Shabazz, you will find the fiery orator-Kalonji Jama Changa. Voted one of Departure Magazine’s “Leaders of the New School”, Kalonji Jama Changa has quickly risen to become one of the most sought after lecturers, hosts and organizers in the country. As National Chief Coordinator of the Prisoners of Conscience Committee (POCC), the political organization that boasts such heavy weights as, Chairman Fred Hampton Jr., former death row inmate Aaron Patterson and the politically charged rap group dead prez, Kalonji launches and oversees chapters nationally. Within one year in the city of Atlanta alone, he has been instrumental in initiating programs such as the “Feed The People Program”, community clothing campaigns; political education classes; self-defense training; numerous rallies, panel discussions and more. Kalonji is also the founder of the FTP Movement, a faction that organizes and unifies political organizations around the nation. Read the interview.

Nel corso dell'ultimo mese u.net ha presentato Bigger Than Hip Hop in svariati centri sociali, librerie e associazione; esperienza questa stupenda ma anche decisamente stancante per un impiegato che, nella sua immaginazione, si considera un cospiratore della generazione dell'Hip Hop. Vorrei ringraziare tutte le persone incontrate durante questi eventi per l'interesse dimostrato e l'affetto espresso. In particolare, vorrei ringraziare il pubblico più giovane, reale obiettivo delle mie riflessioni e scritti. A breve usciranno interessanti recensioni su quotidiani, riviste musicali e siti web e solo ieri (domenica 2luglio) ho letto la lettera di Militant A, Hip Hop: lotta e poesia, pubblicata sulla rivista XL come parte del dibattito sull'evoluzione della scena Hip Hop in Italia, nella quale lo storico MC degli Assalti Frontali spende parole entsusiatiche su Bigger Than Hip Hop. Come tutti potrete capire, l'ultimo periodo è stato piuttosto intenso... e questa è la ragione del ritardo con cui ricevete questa newsletter... non temete, u_net is still in full effect!!!

Kalonji Jama Changa:sl confine tra la creatività di un poeta di strada e l'oratoria di El-Hajj Malik Shabazz, troviamo Kalonji Jama Changa. Nominato "Leader della Nuova Scuola" dall rivista Departure, Kalonji si è distinto come attivista e oratore in tutto il paese. Come Coordinatore Nazionale del Prisoners of Conscience Committee (POCC) - l'organizzazione politica conta tra i suoi miltianti Fred Hampton Jr e l'ex detenuto del Braccio della Morte Aaron Paterson e il duo rap dei Dead Prez - Kalonji si occupa di organizzare l'attività e l'apertura di nuove sedi del POCC. Nel corso dell'ultimo anno nella sola città di Atlanta, Kalonji ha sviluppato diversi programmi di sopravvivenza quali il “Feed The People Program”, diverse scuole della liberazione, campagne per vestire i bisognosi, lezioni di auto difesa, manifestazioni e molto altro. Oltre a tutto ciò, Kalonji è il fondatore del Movimento FTP, una nuova entità politica con l'obiettivo di aggregare organizzazioni politiche e militanti con credo religioso e politico differente, impegnati però nella liberazione dei neri in America.
