The september newsletter has been published right before my departure to NYC. u.net is deep at work on a new editorial project which will focus on the early stages of Hip Hop culture, on the Bronx in the 70s, before the old school had a name, before any rap record had been released, before the world could dig the new cultural movement which would have conquered the world in a few years. u.net is heading towards the Boogie Down Bronx in order to meet and interview the people who started this movement. From gangs to crews, from fights to battles, from playing records to DJing and mixing, from rhyming to kickin lyrics, from parks to clubs through the words who lived those experiences. The underground network ain't just workin' it's kickin!

After the summer break - highly needed and deserved - u.net will re start travelling around italy presenting his book, Bigger Than Hip Hop. The next stops of this journey - for the month of october - will bring the COX18 crew and u.net in Venezia, Abbiategrasso (Pavia), La Spezia and Rome. An interesting proposal we're workin on is to present Bigger Than Hip Hop in different high schools in the Milan area... this would be really cool and hittin the right target. In the meanwhile u.net is trying to work out along with Boots Riley (the Coup) a joint italian tour. If it will ever happen november will be the month!. Pick a Bigger Weapon and Bigger Than Hip Hop, u.net and Boots Riley.... ahw shit!!! Get ready for the knowledge we'll be dropping.

DJ Nu Mark: Nu-Mark has been one of the West Coast’s most respected hip-hop producers, internationally known for his beat-making for Jurassic 5, alongside long-time colleague Cut Chemist. Nu-Mark has released two personal projects: The Blend Crafters album and Hands On mix-CD. Nu-Mark’s creativity won’t just be on record though – his solo tours also promise the same kind of playfulness that he brings to J5’s shows. The new J5's album - Feedback - released the 25th of July, it's off the hook! Althought at work, Nu Mark found the time to break to answer a few questions. Read the interview with DJ Nu Mark.

Nature Sounds: this is the second special on independent Record Labels hiphopreader presents and this time I had the chance to interview Nature Sounds CEO/Founder, Devin Horwitz. We're talkin about a cutting edge record label from Brooklyn, New York which focus on some of the best in the fields of Hip-Hop, Reggae, and beyond. You might remember them from such classics as Masta Killa "No Said Date", R.A. the Rugged Man "Die, Rugged Man Die", Immortal Technique "Revolutionary 1 & 2". Future projects will include include the ground-breaking DOOM/Ghostface collaboration"Swift & Changable" the new Pete Rock album "NY's Finest" and Masta Killa "Made in Brooklyn". La newsletter di settembre viene pubblicata a poche ore dalla mia partenza alla volta di NYC. u.net sta lavorando assiduamente ad un nuovo progetto completamente rivolto alle origini della cultura Hip Hop - quando la Old School non aveva ancora un nome, quando non esistevano dischi rap e non si sapeva ancora di trovarsi di fronte al movimento culturale che avrebbe conquistato il mondo intero da lì a qualche anno. u.net si muoverà per le aree storiche del Boogie Down Bronx per incontare e intervistare alcuni dei pionieri di questa cultura. Dalle gang alle crew, dalla violenza alle battles, dal suonare dei dischi al DJing e mixin', dai parchi del Bronx ai club "in" di manhattan, dalle rime a testi sempre più complessi attraverso le parole dei protagonisti. Ecco l'obiettivo di questo nuovo viaggio: un nuovo libro e l'ampliamento dei confini dell'underground network.

Dopo una necessaria e meritata pausa estiva u.net è di nuovo in full effect presentando con le presentazioni di Bigger Than Hip Hop. Le prossime tappe porteranno la crew del COX18 a conoscere il Rivolta di Venezia(7-10), il Folletto di Abbiategrasso (Pavia, 14-10)), all'RA MayDay di LaSpezia (21-10) e all'Intifada di Roma(27/28-10). Nel frattempo tra le diverse proposte arrivate, la più interessante sicuramente è quella di portare Bigger than Hip Hop all'interno degli istituti superiori milanesi... non male, eh? Nel frattempo u.net e Boots Riley stanno cercando di organizzare un mini tour congiunto. Ecco una delle prossime sorprese che hiphopreader e COX18 offriranno per il prossimo novembre. DJ Nu Mark: Nu-Mark è considerato uno dei maestri della West Coast oltre che un producer di tutto rispetto, conosciuto ai più per i suo lavoro con i Jurassic 5 e con il suo compagno/amico Cut Chemist. Nu-Mark ha pubblicato anche due progetti da solista: The Blend Crafters album e Hands On mix-CD. La creatività di Nu-Mark non si ferma alla sola produzione... i tour da solista come quelli con i Jurassic5 ci hanno insegnato che con NU Mark nulla è scontato. Il nuovo album dei J5 - Feedback - pubblicato il 25 luglio scorso - è un lavoro incredibile, il cui ascolto ha ravvivato molte giornate estiva a chi vi sta scrivendo! Nature Sounds: u.net sta lavorando al secondo Speciale dedicato alle etichette discografiche indipendenti e in questa occasione ha avuto la possibilità di intervistare il fondatore della Nature Sounds, Devin Horwitz. Nature Sounds è una etichetta nata pochi anni or sono con base a Brooklyn e opera per offrire Hip Hop e Reggae di alta qualità.
