The time i spent in NYC during the end of september and the beginning of october has been pretty hectic but really effective for the underground network! u.net had the chance to meet some of the originators of Hip Hop culture (DJ Disco Wiz, Kool DJ AJ, LA Sunshine, T la Rock), new underground artists (A-Alikes, La Bruja) and, at the 40th Black Panther Party reunion (the one which took place in NYC at Riverside Park Auditorium, Harlem , sunday October 1st), a number of friends I hadn't had the chance to see in a long time during. While in NYC u.net had the pleasure to hook up with the peeps who have been instrumental for the definition of the Bigger Than Hip Hop project.

Back from the NYC, u.net continued promoting his book travelling to different spots around Italy having the pleasure to meet collectives, crews and artists from different cities and to engage in interesting conversation and debates. During those days, the news were reporting that the US government made legal all that was illegal as far as surveillance, interrogation and detention... not only... the war on terrorism is opening to the outer space !!!

As told above, u.net is working hard on a new project on the early stages of Hip Hop in the Bronx of the 70s and in doing so he's involving a number of groundbreaking Hip Hop artists. Dilated Peoples: As hip-hop culture evolved in the late 1970s and early 1980s, two things were hallmarks of the movement: DJing and lyrical excellence. In the last several years, no rap group has done more to champion those elements than Dilated Peoples. The Los Angeles-based trio of Rakaa, Evidence and DJ Babu inject their music with humor, insight and social commentary.The trios first three albums -- 2000s The Platform, 2001s Expansion Team and 2004s Neighborhood Watch -- are hailed as exemplary examples of quality hip-hop. Midi Mafia: Midi Mafia is the deadly combination of DJ/producer Dirty Swift, and MC/producer Bruce Waynne, who formed an unlikely partnership in 2002.Since their inception, the pair has produced smashes and/or highly anticipated projects in the works for Nelly, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, Mos Def, Lil Mo, Westside Connection, Talib Kweli, Tamia, Fantasia, The Bravehearts, NORE, CNN, G-Unit and more.Now outfitted to bring their very own offerings to the music industry, Midi Mafia are preparing to unfurl their new label Family Ties, which is distributed by Atlantic Records. Currently they are working on the first artist signed to their imprint, an R&B female from Brooklyn named Deemi. Read the interview.

I giorni passati a NYC tra la fine di settembre e l'inizio di ottobre sono stati piuttosto caotici ma davvero interessanti per i progetti connessi all'underground network! u.net ha avuto il piacere di incontrare alcuni pionieri della cultura Hip Hop (DJ Disco Wiz, Kool DJ AJ, LA Sunshine, T la Rock), nuovi artisti underground (A-Alikes, La Bruja) e alcuni amici di lunga data ritrovatisi per celebrare il 40esimo anniversario della fondazione del Partito delle Pantere Nere (sto parlando del raduno della costa est tenutosi il primo ottobre 2006 presso il Riverside Auditorium di Harlem). Oltre a ciò, u.net ha potuto regalare il proprio libro ad alcuni personaggi che sono stati critici nella definizione del progetto Bigger Than Hip Hop.

Di ritorno da NYC, u.net ha continuato il giro di presentazioni di Bigger Than Hip Hop avendo così la splendida opportunità di incontrare nuovi colletivi e crew nonchè di immergersi in interessanti conversazioni e dibattiti. Durante questi giorni, le news che arrivavano dai telegiornali annunciavano come il governo statunitense stesse rendendo legale tutto ciò che prima era illegale per quanto riguarda intercettazioni, interrogatori e detenzione... non solo... la Guerra al Terrorismo sta assumendo una nuova dimensione, quella spaziale!!!

Le origini della cultura Hip Hop, il Bronx della metà degli anni Settanta, prima ancora che la Old School avesse un nome è l'oggetto del nuovo progetto su cui u.net sta lavorando. Questo progetto vedrà la collaborazione di alcuni MC e artisti Hip Hop italiani... come e perchè? Dilated Peoples: u.net ha avuto il piacere di incontrare Evidence & Rakaa dei Dilated Peoples all'indomani dello storico concerto del gruppo tenutosi al Tunnel di Milano. Personalmente... erano aaannnnni che non vedevo uno spettacolo del genere, soprattutto per l'eccezionale partecipazione del pubblico presente. Il gruppo, uno dei più significativi nel panorama underground contemporaneo, è composto dagli MC Rakaa e Evidence e da DJ Babu (Beat Junkie) ha prodotto musica e liriche intrisi di humor, introspezione e critica sociale. I primi tre album - The Platform (2000), Expansion Team (2001) e Neighborhood Watch (2004)- sono esempi, putroppo sempre più rari, di produzioni Hip Hop di qualità. Con il nuovo progetto 20/20, i Dilated hanno voluto esplicitare la chiarezza della loro visione in quanto alla loro musica e alla gestione della loro carriera.
