The last weekend of November u.net partecipated to the Black Soil International Hip Hop Film Festival in Rotterdam. The event organized by Sasha Dees and Philipp Powell has been showcasing the best Hip Hop movies and documentaries as well as the movies which have inspired the Hip Hop generation. Black Soil's scope is to create a platform for intercultural exchange and to put Hip Hop into a broader perspective. In this perspective the festival held a panel, Ass, Guns and Titties - The Art of Controversy and Provocation, sponsored by the European Cultural Foundation & NRC Handelsblad. The event was a joint discussion between European journalists, artists and the audience on how provocative elements in Hip Hop culture are explained, understood and interpreted in mainstream media. This was also a great chance to learn and understand more on the Hip Hop scene and the musical underground of the different european countries.

The end of November witnessed also the latest victim of police brutality in New York City. Sean Bell was shot 50 times and killed while unarmedby the police. As Davey D "The list of terrorist acts goes on and on with each passing day and they seem to become more outlandish and unbelievable with each occurrence." Contrary to what many in power would like you to believe the Hip Hop community is not simply sitting down and letting all this stuff go down with no response. Nature Sounds Artist: Masta Killa was first introduced to the world on the Wu-tang Clan hit Da Mystery Of Chessboxin'in 1993 from the classic album Enter the 36 Chambers. Since then Masta Killa made appearances on every Wu-Tang Clan album, many solo Wu projects, as well as projects by Afu-Ra, Bounty Killer and Public Enemy. Masta Killa feels his time has finally come. "I'm bringing back that original Wu-tang sound. I'm bringing the family and fans back together like how everyone remembers...the whole Wu-tang movement. Mr Long: The former Mista Lawnge of the 90's Hip Hop group Black Sheep is challenging today’s rap with the release of his new album The Class of ’89. With the revised stage name of Mr. Long, he promises to bring back the style of the late 80's and early 90's which was so prevalent among his generation of artists – Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, KRS 1, Gangstarr, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, DAS EFX and EPMD. Mr. Long’s new album is not only a tribute to the past – when Hip Hop music imparted knowledge, causes and lyrical creativity – but a promotion for major shifts among today’s Rap Music. L'ultimo week end di Novembre u.net ha partecipato alla quarta edizione del Black Soil International Hip Hop Film Festival di Rotterdam. Il Festival, organizzato da Sasha Dees e Philipp Powell ha l'obiettivo di dar risalto non solo alle migliori produzioni cinemotografiche Hip Hop ma anche ai film che hanno ispirato questa generazione. Il Black Soil Film Fest si propone come una piattaforma di inetrscambio culturale nel tentativo di allargare le prospettive d'analisi sulla cultura Hip hop. In questo senso, quest'anno il festival ha ospitato il panel, Ass, Guns and Titties - The Art of Controversy and Provocation, sponsorizzato dalla European Cultural Foundation & NRC Handelsblad. Il panel, pensato come discussione congiunta tra giornalisti, artisti e pubblico, voleva riflettere su come gli elementi negativi e provocatori nell'Hip Hop siano spiegati e interpretati dai media. L'incontro mi ha offerto anche la splendida occasione per confrontarmi sulla scena Hip Hop presente in altri paesi europei.

Il mese di Novembre ha riportato in primo piano lo spettro della brutalità poliziesca negli Stati Uniti. Sean Bell è morto in seguito ad un'aggressione poliziesca che lo ha visto come obiettivo di oltre 50 colpi di pistola, tutti diretti ad un uomo disarmato. Come spiega in un suo articolo Davey D:"La lista di atti di terrorismo continua ad arricchirsi di nomi e stragi in maniera preoccupante." Al contrario di quanto molti possano pensare la comunità Hip Hop si sta muovendo coesa affinchè l'ennesima attacco contro la comunità di colore non passi senza risposta. Brutalità poliziesca e Racial profiling non possono essere accettati come partcihe di routine della polizia. Masta Killa è convinto che sia arrivata l'ora del suo primo album, Made in Brooklyn, con il quale "riprorre il sound originale del Clan., riportare la famiglia e i fan a ricongiungersi... a riformare il movimento. MrLong: Conosciuto come Mista Lawnge, dj e producer dello storico gruppo dei Black Sheep, Mr Long intende sfidare il rap contemporaneo con il suo primo lavoro solista, Class of 89. Mr Long intende riprorre il sound e lo stile della fine degli anni Ottanta e i primi anni Novanta e degli artisti che hanno caratterizzato quegli anni - nomi quali Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, KRS 1, Gangstarr, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, DAS EFX and EPMD. Il nuovo lavoro di Mr Long non vuole semplicemente essere un tributo al passato - quando l'hip hop aveva una funzione educativa e l'originalità era l'aspetto più importante - bensì una vera e propria scossa alle coscienze affinchè si ribellino alla mediocrità attuale.
