While ruling against the three issues that could have led to a new guilt-phase trial, the court affirmed Judge Yohn's 2001 decision overturning the death sentence. If the District Attorney wants to re-instate the death sentence, the DA must call for a new penalty-phase jury trial that would be limited to the question of life in prison without a chance of parole or a death sentence.

Talking about Black America but changing radically issue, I'm happy to tell you that my latest project, RENEGADES OF FUNK, the oral history on Hip Hop's early stages is about to be completed. I'm putting the finishing touches but this new creature is coming to life... talking about this I can't help haring with y'all the news that my companion Sonia and I are about to enter partenthood or better well be new parents in the hood!

RENEGADES OF FUNK is composed by more than 30 interviews with old school pioneers (Bboys, Writers, MCs and DJs) who broke shit down for your boy u.net, 9 essays and a number of skits. Plus you'll be able to appreciate also the pictorial contrbutions by the most known Hip Hop photographers of the times: Henry Chalfant, Marta Cooper, Charlie Ahearn, Joe Conzo and Jamel Shabbazz. But we pushed further... u.net gave his essays to a number of italian MCs and producers who are providing y'all a musical history directly connected to text. The shit is wicked, for real. Here I'm sharing some snippets of the new project, publishing an extract of the interview with Busy Bee and Joe Conzo.

And i want y'all to remember this refrain from the Tribute to Kool Herc by Esa The Funk Prez and DJ Shablo. It was a party during the summer of 73 / in the Bronx a DJ was palying the Funky Breaks / the pioneer of Hip Hop is a legendary DJ / a man known by the name of Kool Herc. The number of the artists involved will provide a diversity of perspectives and attitudes... you gotta check this out. Soon the RENEGADES OF FUNK website will be online. The Chief Rocker Busy Bee

Busy Bee earned his legendary reputation as the Chief Rocker with his ability to get the party started and keep the people rockin with his legendary shout outs. In 1977 impressed by the style of Grandmaster Flash's 3 MC, Busy Bee Starski decided to pick up the mic and since then he never stopped rocking the crowd. He rocked the early block parties and park jams of Hip Hop with Disco King Mario, Africa Islam and Kool DJ AJ. MC Busy Bee and Cool DJ AJ were a powerful 1-2 punch that could knock you out without warning. Busy Bee was so fly that he changed the game forever when he became Hip Hop's first solo MC EVER!He was also involved in one of the most infamous battles in history against Kool Moe Dee. Copies of this battle have been traded around for last twenty years. Busy Bee was featured in the 1982 film Wild Style, billed as the first hip-hop motion picture, directed by Charlie Ahearn. More recently, he played himself in the 2002 inner-city drama Paid in Full. In 2007, he was included in the video documentary Hip Hop Legends.

Joe Conzo

BORN IN THE BRONX: Back in the 70’s, Joe Conzo’s pictures were part of Hip-Hop. 30 years later, his pictures are part of Hip-Hop history. Strapped with a camera 24/7 during the late 70's and early 80's, he intimately captured the birth of Hip-Hop music and a culture that would forever change the world. He would go on being the Crush’s exclusive photographer and record some of the most candid and exhilarating moments of the pioneering rap group to date. In addition, he documented other legendary Hip-Hop groups like the Treacherous 3, Fearless 4 and Fantastic 5 in famed venues such as The T-Connection, Harlem World, Ecstasy Garage and The Roxy. But Joe’s photographic contributions to urban culture weren’t limited to just Hip-Hop. Being the grandson of the late "Hell Lady of the Bronx" Dr. Evelina Antonetty, Joe also documented the political and socio-economic conditions that played a great role in the late 70’s, early 80’s South Bronx. Becuase of his parents role in the community Joe had exclusive access to some of the most influential names in the world of Latin Music. Salsa greats like Hector Lavoe, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco and Ray Baretto were brilliantly shot by Joe as they shaped the face of Latin Music.

Before leaving i want to remind y'all ‘MCs for Life’ – a two day conference across two cities celebrating the very best in MC culture and heritage - that will take place between Biringham and Manchester on june 28th and 29th. Tra la fine di marzo e i primi di marzo i principali mezzi di informazione riportavano informazioni sulla positivà della desione legale presa nei cofnronti di MUMIA ABU JAMAL. Attenzione a tutti: questa non è una vittoria. Al contrario, è la dimostrazione di come il governo statunitense non abbia alcuna intenzione di liberare un uomo innocente, colpevole di aver continuato a diffondere conoscenza anche dall'isolamento della sua cella. In pratica, i giudici hanno riaffermato la decisione del giudiceYohn del 2001 che annullava la pena capitale nei confronti di Mumia senza però accettare le prove per il rifacimento del processo. Ora la decisione e nelle mani del pubblico ministero che, nel tentativo di appellarsi a quest'ultima decisione, opererà per far riaprire solo la fase penale di un ipotetico processo, lasciando a Mumia la possibilità di un ergastolo senza possibilità di libertà vigilata o una nuova condanna a morte.

Rimanendo sempre in tema di America nera, ma cambiando decisamente argomento, sono felice di annunciare che ho terminato il nuovo progetto editoriale su cui stavo lavorando, RENEGADES OF FUNK, una stoira orale sulle origini della cultura Hip Hop nel Bronx degli anni Settanta che vedrà la luce verso giugno 08... ma questa non è l'unica novità... anche Mattia verrà alla luce a breve... chi è Mattia? ma il bimbo che verrà a rallegrare la mia vita e quella della mia compagna Sonia!

The Chief Rocker Busy Bee

Busy Bee, storico pioniere dell'MCing, si è guadagnato la sua nomea di l’MC dalle liriche ironiche e taglienti capace di metter il sorriso sulle labbra anche ai propri avversari durante le prime storiche jam nel Bronx. Nel 1977 folgorato dalle capacità al microfono dei 3 mC di Grandmaster Flash, Busy Bbee decise di seguire la sua profonda passione per l'MCing. Inizia suonando con Afrika Islam, Disco King Mario e Kool DJ AJ. MC Busy Bee e Cool DJ AJ erano una coppia talmente potente da potervi mettere KO senza che possiate avere il benchè minimo sentore. Busy Bee fu il primo solo MC che operava come free lance in tutto il Bronx! Lo ricordiamo come vincitore di numerose sfide ma anche come il protagonista di una delle più cocenti sconfitte nella battle all'Harlem World dove Kool Moe Dee lo annientò. Molte copie in versione bootleg della battaglia circolano ancora a distanza di ventanni e consiglio a chiunque di ascoltarla. Busy Bee è anche il protagonista di Wild Style, primo film Hip Hop della storia diretto dal fotografo/regista e caro amico Charlie Ahearn. Recentemente ha partecipato al film drammatico Paid in Full (2002) dove recitava interpretando sè stesso. Dal 2005 è in tour con The Blastmaster, KRS ONe..

Joe Conzo

BORN IN THE BRONX: Durante gli anni Settanta, le foto di Joe Kane aka Joe Conzo era parte integrante dell'emergente cultura Hip Hop; oggi a distanza di trentanni rappresentano la memoria storica di quel periodo. La sua passione incredibile per la fotografia ci ha permesse di avere un corpus di fotografie che raccontano le origini della cultura che avrebbe profondamente influenzato la cultura globale. Joe Conzo divenne il fotografo ufficiale dei Cold crush Brothers, seguendoli in tutte le feste. Oltre a ciò, Joe Conzo ha scattato foto ai più famosi gruppi dell'epoca, gente come i Treacherous 3, i Fearless 4 e i Fantastic 5 in locali storici quali il T-Connection, l'Harlem World, l'Ecstasy Garage e il Roxy. Importante qui ricordare come il corpus fotografico di Joe Conzo non sia limitato alla sola cultura Hip Hop ma anche alla cultura e alla musica latina potendo avere l'accesso a figure storiche comeHector Lavoe, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco e Ray Baretto. Essendo il nipote di Evelina Antonetty, conosciuta come la "Hell Lady of the Bronx", Joe Conzo fu in grado di documentare il massiccio cambiamento delle condizioni socio-economiche che aveva afflitto il Bronx della metà degli anni Settanta.

Prima di lasciarvi vorrei darvi visibilità su ‘MCs for Life’ – una conference die due giorni che celebrerà il meglio dell'MC culture - che si terrà il prossimo 28-29 giugno 08 tra Birmingham e Manchester, UK. L'evento è presentato da Punch Records all'interno del BASS FESTIVAL. u.net è stato invitato a partecipare all'evento e sarà coinvolto in un panel (a breve maggiori info).
